As we teach in our eBook The Activist Entrepreneur, a cause-oriented company is not sustainable, if it is continually dependent on the founder!

In order for a social enterprise to be truly sustainable, the owner should go on working vacations in order to set up systems of remote management so the business can survive independently.

Using technology, an owner can maintain oversight and create methods for virtual training in order to develop a strong management system.

In line with this policy, Mojo, the Community Director of Hedonisia, lives part-time in Portland where he has started an apartment based 'micro-community.' As one of the most progressive and feminist cities in America, we chose to make our first urban micro-community in Portland.

As with many of the 'cool' cities in the world, it is very expensive to buy housing or land in Portland. So, to reflect the current reality, our urban micro-community model is based on rental housing.

We define a micro-community as 2 - 5 people living together in a house or apartment in the city.

In Portland, Mojo works on public relations, website development, and research on a Portfolio of EcoFeminist Entrepreneur projects which we manage in Hawaii and in Portland, OR.

In addition, he also remotely trains and works with the Intern Community Manager Team who are able to learn in a truly immersive program.

If you like the work we are doing at Hedonisia, and are traveling in the Portland area, please contact us if you are looking for temporary lodgings in our 'micro-community' in Portland where we rent a room at our two bedroom apartment.

We are in a city so our Volunteer Program is smaller in scale than at our jungle community in Hawaii! Applicants can enjoy a discount rent in exchange for volunteer support of work on the websites in our EcoFeminist Web Portfolio.

Volunteer for Rent Reduction!

Portland Urban Micro-community Living Room
Hedonisia Portland:  Living Room!

When we live with a like-minded roommate, we are in a sense, creating a tiny apartment 'micro-community' that complements our larger jungle community in Hawaii! Applicants with writing, research or tech skills who are interested in volunteer work on any of our web projects can do so in exchange for a reduction in rent!

For every hour you work on any of our web projects, we lower the rent by $15 up to a maximum of $300 rent reduction per month! However, if you are especially skilled, we can offer more hours for a greater reduction in rent!

Here are some of the projects you can choose to work on in Portland:

  • Hedonisia Eco-Feminist Web Portfolio: These are the feminist entrepreneur sites managed by our community that deal with subjects such as reproductive rights, eco-feminist, female empowerment and sex-positive feminism! Volunteers work on research, writing, database and site updates.
  • Video Editing: We create and edit many educational and instructional videos for our web projects. If you are proficient with video editing let us know!
  • Tech Volunteer. Especially for eco-feminists with advanced WordPress, Social Media or SEO experience, we have volunteer work for you!
