Books offering Alternative Depictions & Interpretations of Islam
|
Introduction: "My name is Mohammed Mustapha; I am a former Muslim who quit Islam as a protest against the way Women are treated in most Muslim countries. Leaving the religion of Islam is known as apostasy and the penalty in many Muslim countries for this is death or imprisonment. Even to criticize the Muslim Religion is an Invitation for Muslim fanatics to take it upon themselves to hunt down the "heretic". I have received a number of death threats for my position but as long as the Islamic Religion continues to be dominated by fundamentalist fanatics I will continue to agitate for change. Check out Sex, Terrorism and Islam for more on this subject. Here are some writers who are brave enough to offer alternative interpretations of Islam and Muslims in general. Please bookmark this page as the list will grow. |

Not without my
daughter

Any woman who is considering marrying or engaging in a long-term relationship with a Muslim man should read this book. It describes a liberal American woman who does just that, marries an Iranian man. She goes with him to his homeland and then the nightmare begins . . . Lest I be called racist for making such a statement let me add that I was a former Muslim. I quit the religion to protest the treatment of women in Islam. And stories such as these only firmed my decision. Hint; if you are a Western woman considering whether to date a Muslim man check out how his sisters live. If his sisters are still living traditionally with him accepting that as natural then you can expect the same if your relationship develops. On the other hand if his sisters live with a great degree of freedom or if he is fighting for his sister's freedom then you have found one of the rarest of species . . . a feminist Muslim man! The "Sister Test" is one of the best ways to see who a Muslim man really is. |

The Satanic Verses
by
Salman Rushdie
|
|
No book in modern times has matched the uproar sparked by Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, which earned its author a death sentence. Furor aside, it is a marvelously erudite study of good and evil, a feast of language served up by a writer at the height of his powers, and a rollicking comic fable. Some excellent humor and satire on Islam though he is more critical of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher than the Muslims who sentenced him to death. The irony is that she more instrumental in keeping him alive than anyone else! |

PIRATE
by Harold Robbins |
| The hypocrisy, wealth, anti-semitism, misogyny and lechery of Oil-Rich Gulf Muslims are detailed well in this novel. Though fictional it could be the autobiography of many a rich Gulf Arab. |
